Frequently Asked Questions

Who benefits from coaching?

Coaching is for everyone from teens to seniors.  Change is an inevitable part of the human experience.  Some of us are really good at it and a lot of us just aren't.  Coaching supports clients in setting goals around getting unstuck, making big and small life moves, coming to decisions, and moving past setbacks.  If you are entering a new life stage or simply have a desire to uncover what is holding you back, you can benefit from coaching.

Is coaching like therapy?

Coaching and therapy differ in a number of ways with the most important being coaches do not diagnose clients or treat mental disorders as defined by the American Psychiatric Association.  Coaches generally work with clients for a limited amount of time, focusing that time on setting goals and planning for the future.  Coaching is not a substitute for therapy if needed, and does not prevent, cure, or treat any mental disorder or medical disease.

Are coaches formally trained professionals?

Well some of us are.  If you are wondering about me specifically, the answer is yes.  I completed an Accredited Coach Training Program to become a Professional Certified Coach, I also earned an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential through the International Coaching Federation.  In addition to coach training, I have earned a bachelor's degree in Marriage and Family Counseling and a Master's in Human Resources Development.

What is a connection call?

The connection call is the opportunity for us to meet to learn just enough about one another to decide if I could be the right coach for you.  I want to hear your motivation for pursuing coaching and give you an honest assessment of how I can help.  Will my offer to help result in us planning to work together for a time? Maybe, or it may be a referral to another coach or professional.  Either way, I want to help.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance.  Generally coaching is not covered by traditional insurance as coaches are not mental health professionals.

Can you accommodate virtual sessions?

Absolutely!  While I am physically located in Indiana, my clients are spread across the country from California to Alabama.  Sessions are delivered in the format most comfortable for the client.  Some clients meet with me exclusively through video chat and others prefer to speak over the phone.  Your session is your time.  You make the rules!
